Drupal Camp Dallas 2010

We are busy planning the next Drupal Camp Dallas, currently targetting July 2010.  Stay tuned here and follow us on Twitter for updates, and feel free to leave us any suggestions on how we can make Drupal Camp Dallas 2010 even better than 2009.

And please come to Dallas Drupal monthly meetings for ongoing discussions and learning opportunities with Drupal!

DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 a Success!

Many are still recovering from the sold-out and jam-packed weekend that was DrupalCamp Dallas 2009. Over 100 developers, users, and business owners curious about the Drupal open source platform gathered in Dallas the first weekend of August for two days of Drupal! Here is what some of the attendees said...

"Definitely one of best DrupalCamps I've attended. The Dallas Drupal users are a vibrant and knowledgeable bunch." - Todd Ross Nienkerk, Four Kitchens

"I had no idea there were so many amazing brains around Dallas / Fort Worth, and enjoyed the broad range of topics that were covered." - Chris Ruppel

"Vulcan Mind Meld - I had a great time at Drupal Camp Dallas this past weekend. It was awesome to meet people who I previously had only talked to online, and to get acquainted with other sharp people from the DFW area." - Nathan Smith

"Learned about hacking everything except Core" - John Jesus

"It was a great learning experience. Thanks to all of those that made this event possible. I'm already implementing the stuff I learned and have passed along the info!" - Blake Ramick

Presentations and videos of the event are now available on the website, www.DrupalCampDallas.org On the Sessions page, click on the title of each session to see slideshare presentations and videos.

Behind the Scenes of DrupalCamp Dallas

Organizing a committee for DrupalCamp Dallas was a no-brainer. When we started planning for the event back in June, we had just six weeks to find a venue, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and promote the event to you. We needed all the help we could get!

The DrupalCamp Dallas committee really got things done. We met on a weekly basis and listed out action items for the following week. Four Kitchens invited us to use their wiki to keep everything in one place. LevelTen, Koine Media and Tarakan Design donated hours (upon hours) to spend during the workday. All of the committee members spent time on the weeknights and weekends to meet our goal of making this event as educational as possible for the Drupal community.

Hosted and Sponsored by Improving Enterprises

improving enterprises

This year's DrupalCamp Dallas is being hosted and sponsored by Improving Enterprises. We not only like Improving, we like love them. They first caught our eye as being agile experts, well known in the community as having top-notch training for scrummaster certifications. And then we discovered their continuing support and development of the technology community by doing things like this: running and hosting the Scrum User Group, co-running Dallas Presenter Mentor, co-organizing AgileDotNet 2008, presenting at Dallas Tech Fest, and this list goes on and on.

When they signed on for DrupalCamp Dallas we were ecstatic.

Firehost is the Host With The Most

firehost professional managed hosting in dallas/plano texas

Where would DrupalCamp be without Firehost as a sponsor?  Let's put it this way... it wouldn't be good.  For those of you who are not familiar with Firehost, they are a "secure web hosting company that provides premium managed hosting solutions with enterprise level security to companies of all sizes."  They are based locally in Plano, and have been delivering top notch hosting services since 2002.

What Exactly Is A BOF Session?

A BOF Session, or Birds of a Feather session is a spontanious gathering of people brought together to dicuss a topic of mutual interest to teach others and share knowledge.  These sessions are usually put together last minute, and no expertise is required on the part of the organizer.

So how do you get involved?

Collab Lab: The Door is Open for Everyone at All Levels

drupal laptop stickersWe all have questions, especially about Drupal. Learn from the people who have already been in your shoes. Take this opportunity to ask the questions they were asking 6 months, 2 years, even 5 years ago.

Bring your laptop in from 4-6pm for Collab Lab on Saturday, Sunday or both days. If you're looking for help on your Drupal project, you should be here. If you can help solve problems and teach Drupal, you should be here, too.

Have a specific project your working on? Bring it. The goal of the lab is to answer your questions and help you understand Drupal a little bit more than when you when you walked in that door.

Let's help each other out. You just might have the Drupal answer I am looking for.

Volacci is Committed to the Drupal Community

Volacci

Volacci knows search. They also know Drupal and the Drupal community, having attended, presented, and sponsored numerous DrupalCamps and Cons around the world. They even created and maintain the most popular online-marketing module for Drupal SEO called the Drupal SEO Checklist. Volacci is extremely committed to Drupal and helping people understand it better by publishing the Drupal SEO Podcast, helping in the forums, and writing documentation for Drupal.org. While they do provide services for a wide variety of platforms, I get the impression they prefer Drupal over the other guys. Of course, no ones playing favorites here. ;-)

Volacci is a Gold sponsor and their contribution and support means a lot to us!

Fuse Dallas is our official location for the pre-camp Happy Hour event. Our friends at Fuse have extended an incredibly generous offer to DrupalCamp Dallas attendees. Fuse is offering:

Acquia = Awesome

acquia logo

Have we mentioned lately how much we love our sponsors? Let's put it this way. If we were dating Acquia, and they were about to leave the good 'ol United States for a summer tour of Europe in order to "expand their horizons", we'd be the ones rushing to the airport in a desperate attempt to stop them so that we could explain our true feelings. We might even start a slow clap. Is that not true devotion?

Thank You, OpenCircle Technology!

DrupalCamp Dallas is not for profit event and events like this one wouldn't be possible without the support of sponsors. Sponsors are extremely important to help fund the costs associated with running a camp. Over the next week we'll be featuring all of DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 sponsors that have supported the camp on a Gold and Platinum level. So if you have some free time, go to their website and find out more about who this year's sponsors are and what it is they do!

The "Genius" Behind DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 Logo

in

Kevin Flahaut, the Genius behind rocketgenius, designed this year's (and first ever) DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 logo. Kevin, in addition to being one heck of a nice guy, is also a very talented graphic designer. He has over 12 years of experience in design, having worked with a wide range of clients and projects from web design to user interface design, branding and identity to search engine optimization & organic SERP.

Kevin started rocketgenius (formerly 404 Creative) in September of 1996. He is extremly talented, driven, and knowledgable when it comes to visual design and web best practices. But don't be fooled - he is as humble as they come, which makes it even more enjoyable to work with him.
